Biography

Saswati Sarkar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland in 2000 and her Master of Engineering in Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science in 1996. Her undergraduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunications was obtained from Jadavpur University in 1994. Sarkar's research interests encompass a broad range of topics in network science, including the optimization of resource allocation in wireless networks, control of epidemic dynamics, and the economics of network neutrality. She has published numerous papers on the theoretical and practical aspects of network behavior under various constraints. Her contributions extend to developing methodologies for the optimal control of epidemic spread in complex systems, as well as strategies for fair resource allocation in multicast networks. A recipient of the NSF Career Award and multiple medals during her academic tenure, she is actively involved in academia as a committee member for multiple prestigious conferences and serves on editorial boards for various IEEE journals. Sarkar has held various editorial positions, including Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communication and IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and has been a Senior Editor for IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communication since 2018.
