Biography

Satish Kumar received his Ph.D. degree in 1979 from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, specializing in Polymer Fiber Science. He gained post-doctoral experience in Polymer Science Engineering at the University of Massachusetts from 1979 to 1982. In 1982, he was a visiting scientist at the Atomic Energy Commission in Grenoble, France. From 1984 to 1989, he worked with the Polymer Branch at the Air Force Materials Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, as a contractor with Universal Energy Systems at the University of Dayton Research Institute. In 1989, he joined Georgia Tech, where he is currently a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. His research interests include high performance materials, biomaterials, energy storage, nanomaterials, functional electronics, optical materials, and fiber composites. He emphasizes the study of polymer crystallization in the presence of carbon nanotubes, carbon nanotube-based carbon fibers, electrochemical supercapacitors, biomedical applications of polymers, fibers, nanofibers, and nanocomposites, as well as the thermal and electrical conductivity of nanocomposites.
