Dr. Savita Rangarajan

Biography

Professor Savita Rangarajan is an internationally renowned haematologist with decades of experience at the consultant level, specializing in coagulation medicine and haemophilia. She currently serves as a Professor of Clinical Haematology at the University of Southampton. Savita trained in India at Mumbai University, where she earned her MBBS and MD degrees, and subsequently furthered her medical education with clinical training in the United Kingdom. She holds fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists and is listed on the UK’s Specialist Register for Haematologists. Her clinical career has spanned major UK institutions, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she developed and led comprehensive haemostasis and thrombosis services. Savita has played a pivotal role in establishing the Southern Haemophilia Network and integrating cutting-edge clinical trials platforms across multiple NHS trusts. She has been instrumental in advancing gene and cell therapy for bleeding disorders, leading major international Phase III clinical trials and contributing landmark publications in top journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet. She has secured £1 million in investigator-initiated research grants and is actively engaged in translational research, particularly in thrombosis and haemophilia care. In addition to her work in the UK, she consults for Reliance Life Sciences in India, where she leads gene and cell therapy initiatives and established the Clinical Trials Research Unit at KJ Somaiya Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai, reflecting her commitment to global health and cross-border collaboration. Savita is also a co-founder of the Southern Interdisciplinary Global Health Network (SigHN) and the founder of the Scientific Academic Coagulation Consortium (SACC), fostering collaborative international research.
