Biography

Savraj Grewal is a Professor at the University of Calgary and the Associate Director of Basic & Translational Research at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. He obtained his BSc in Pharmacology from King's College London in 1992 and completed his PhD in Cell Developmental Biology at Oregon Health Sciences University in 2001. He has also conducted postdoctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Since joining the faculty at the University of Calgary in 2007, his research has focused on cell and tissue growth utilizing the Drosophila model system. His lab investigates the regulatory mechanisms of cell growth and proliferation, which are crucial for animal development and can become deregulated in cancer. By using Drosophila melanogaster, the lab aims to uncover fundamental growth control mechanisms that are relevant to human health and disease.
