Biography

Sayeh Bayat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary and a member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute. She is also the director of the Healthy City Laboratory. Dr. Bayat's research integrates innovative engineering methods with machine learning and geographic information science to create context-aware solutions in healthcare. Her work examines the relationship between mobility behaviors and cognitive functions, focusing particularly on older adults and individuals with dementia. Prior to her role at the University of Calgary, she earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and a bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto. Her research interests include Digital Health, AI Medicine, Digital Biomarkers, Human-centred Machine Learning, Smart Mobility, and Healthy Aging. She aims to adopt a human-centric approach in using machine learning to assist in the detection, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of health issues, particularly dementia. Dr. Bayat has been recognized with awards including the Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Calgary and the Alberta Immigrant Impact Award.
