Dr. Scarlett Bellamy

Biography

Scarlett L. Bellamy, ScD, is the Chair Professor of Biostatistics at Boston University School of Public Health. She began her role at Boston University on July 1, 2023, after serving as a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health. Bellamy earned her BA in mathematics from Hampton University and completed her doctoral training in biostatistics from Harvard University. With significant experience in her field, she dedicated 15 years at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine where she excelled as a professor in biostatistics. Her research is focused on evaluating the efficacy of interventions through longitudinal behavioral modification trials and cluster-randomized trials. She is particularly interested in applying statistical methodologies to address health disparities across various clinical behavioral outcomes such as HIV/AIDS and cardiovascular disease. Bellamy has served as a co-principal investigator for the Data Coordinating Center for the Prematurity Respiratory Outcomes Program at UPenn, aiming to improve respiratory outcomes for preterm infants. A recognized leader in her field, she was elected a fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2016 and served as president of the Eastern North American Region of the International Biometric Society in 2017. Currently, she collaborates with the Center for Health Equity Research Promotion at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia.
