Biography

Scott Baden joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 1990. He specializes in high-performance parallel scientific computation and has extensive research interests in large-scale scientific computation, including parallel computation, algorithms, irregular data structures, run-time optimization, and performance characterization. His work intersects numerous applied fields such as chemistry, fluid dynamics, and biology applications, including cell physiology, subsurface modeling, turbulence studies, and ab-initio molecular dynamics. Baden is involved in teaching parallel computation at both graduate and undergraduate levels and courses on compilers. He is a founding faculty member of UCSD's Program in Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering and co-directs the Scientific Computation Group within the Computer Science and Engineering Department. In addition to his academic contributions, Scott Baden is known for his passion for photography and traveling.
