Biography

Scott Boehm is an Assistant Professor focused on 20th and 21st Century Spanish Culture. He is the founder and director of the MSU Latinx Film Festival and a core faculty member of the Global Studies in Arts and Humanities Program. Additionally, he is affiliated with the Film Studies Program and acts as the Graduate Advisor for the M.A. in Hispanic Literatures and the Ph.D. in Hispanic Cultural Studies programs. Scott is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and a fellow at the UC Berkeley Human Rights Center. He played a crucial role in launching the UC San Diego Spanish Civil War Memory Project, creating a significant digital humanities project that serves as a major audiovisual archive of survivor testimonies from the Spanish Civil War and the Francoist dictatorship. His current book project, "Spanish Nightmares: Cultural Anxieties & Horror Film in 21st Century Spain," explores the Spanish horror renaissance and its connections to the legacy of the Francoist dictatorship and the socio-economic impact of the Great Recession. Scott has published several academic articles and chapters on contemporary Spanish horror film, neo-noir, and historical memory, and he teaches a variety of courses related to Spanish cinema and cultural studies.
