Scott E. Brodie, MD, Ph.D., is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and an Attending Ophthalmologist at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. He is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist whose research primarily focuses on improving methodologies in electrophysiologic testing and describing novel findings in patients with inherited metabolic retinal disorders. Dr. Brodie completed his MD-PhD program at Weill Cornell Medical College and Rockefeller University under the supervision of Nobel Laureate H. K. Hartline, receiving extensive training in retinal physiology. Following his graduation, he underwent medical internship and residency training in ophthalmology at New York Hospital and pursued fellowship training in medical retinal disorders and clinical electrophysiology at NYU Bellevue Hospital. He has played key roles in developing new therapies, including enzyme-replacement therapy for Fabry disease and intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma, which notably increased the salvage rate of severely affected patients from 20% to 90%. A fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Dr. Brodie has published extensively on electrophysiology related to retinal disorders and has served as Chair of the Editorial Committee for the Academy’s Basic Clinical Science Course on Clinical Optics for the past decade.
