Professor Scott E. Fraser has a long-standing commitment to quantitative biology, applying tools from chemistry, engineering, and physics to problems in biology and medicine. His research focuses on imaging molecular analyses of intact biological systems, with an emphasis on early development, organogenesis, medical diagnostics, and translational research. He initially joined the faculty at UC Irvine, where he rose through the ranks to become Chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. In 1990, he moved to Caltech to serve as the Anna L. Rosen Professor of Biology and Director of the Biological Imaging Center, and he was instrumental in establishing the Caltech Brain Imaging Center and the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience, where he serves as Director. In Fall 2012, he transitioned to USC to take the position of Provost Professor at the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, while also being involved with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine and the Viterbi School of Engineering. He continues to be active in interdisciplinary research and holds the title of Director of Science Initiatives across USC campuses.
