Biography

Scott Harrison is a terrestrial ecologist interested in applying the concepts of ecological resilience and Adaptive Management to improve the sustainable use of natural resources. His research focuses on wildlife ecosystems and supporting wildlife populations. Scott studied various species, particularly large carnivores and dynamics in predator-prey systems. His landscape-level research provides field data supporting quantitative population models within an Adaptive Management framework, thus helping decision-makers test the effects of various resource-use scenarios. Scott aims to assist practitioners by applying ecological research to land-use decisions. He co-edited the book, “Conservation Biology Principles in Forested Landscapes.” Throughout his career, Scott has conducted fieldwork in regions across British Columbia and during his post-doctoral studies at the University of Oxford. He also worked with operational and policy units in the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations. Beyond academia, Scott has experience in Environmental Risk Management, helping businesses improve their sustainability performance. He served as a Liaison Delegate for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and contributed as a lead author to the book, “Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Business,” outlining the economic benefits corporations can gain from biodiversity and ecosystem services.
