Biography

Scott Hartman is a lecturer in trombone at Yale School of Music and has been associated with the institution since 2001. He is also a festival artist at Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Hartman has taught and performed concerts in all 50 U.S. states and internationally as a trombone soloist in chamber ensembles. He is a former member of the Empire Brass Quintet and a founding member of the Yale Brass Trio, as well as other groups like Proteus 7 and Millennium Brass. As a principal trombonist with the Brass Band of Battle Creek since 1993 and a longtime member of Summit Brass, he brings significant performance experience to his teaching. At Yale, he instructs graduate-level tenor and bass trombone students, coaches chamber groups, and performs in the Faculty Artist Series. Hartman also participates in summer festivals like the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and the Chautauqua Music Festival, and he is affiliated with the Raphael Mendez Institute. Beyond teaching, he operates a publishing company for brass music called Firebird Editions and has developed his line of Hartman Mouthpieces.
