Scott Haselschwardt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2018 and his B.S.E. in Engineering Physics from the University of Michigan in 2012. His research focuses on experimental astroparticle physics, specifically exploring the nature of dark matter and its possible interactions through ultra-sensitive particle detectors. He is currently involved in the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter experiment, which is located one mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. The LZ detector uses 7 tonnes of liquid xenon and represents one of the world's most sensitive searches for dark matter interactions. His work aims to reveal new insights into dark matter, neutrinos, and physics beyond the Standard Model.
