Biography

Scott P. Kelly is a Full Professor in the Department of Biology at York University. His research program focuses on the regulation of salt water balance in aquatic animals, with a strong emphasis on the endocrine system and its links to environmental change and physiological responses. He investigates the permeability properties of occluding junctions in vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. His studies utilize model organisms, allowing for broad insights into the physiological processes of aquatic arthropods such as mayfly nymphs and extant agnathans like the sea lamprey, as well as teleost fishes and amphibians. Current areas of interest include the regulation of epithelial permeability in response to environmental changes, and the characterization of occluding junction proteins in epithelia impacted by salinization in freshwater aquatic organisms. Scott is committed to fostering the intellectual growth and development of his trainees, placing their success at the forefront of his research endeavors.
