Scott Daniel Moore is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. His current research focuses on developing model systems to investigate the physiological effects of acute ethanol, particularly through a rat brain slice preparation that incorporates the amygdala, a brain region associated with anxiety and the anxiolytic effects induced by ethanol. He is also examining the neurobiological basis of seizure-induced memory disruption using in vitro electrophysiological techniques. His work aims to clarify the basic mechanisms underlying memory processes and anxiogenesis. Over the years, Moore has been involved in numerous grant-funded projects with various themes related to alcohol use disorder and smoking cessation, reflecting his deep commitment to advancing psychiatric sciences and behavioral therapy. He holds both an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, obtained in 1986. In addition to his academic positions, he has participated in several prestigious research initiatives funded by the National Institutes of Health and other organizations.
