Biography

Scott Murray is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois, specializing in architectural design and education. He teaches design studios and seminars and has served as the past Chair of the Building Performance Program Area. A licensed architect since 2000, Professor Murray has been involved in a variety of building projects, ranging from single-family residences to skyscrapers. He maintains a design practice based in Urbana, Illinois, and serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Technology | Architecture + Design (TAD), an international peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. His current research and design work focus on the cultural significance of architectural technologies with an emphasis on innovative building-envelope design and the history of modern technology, particularly how architecture interacts with nature. Murray is the author of several books, including *Contemporary Curtain Wall Architecture* (Princeton Architectural Press) and *Translucent Building Skins* (Routledge). His work has been recognized nationally, as his student projects in studios have received awards from ACSA national competitions and the Chicago Women in Architecture Scholarship Program. He has been included on the University’s List of Teachers Ranked Excellent for more than 40 classes taught since 2005.
