Biography

Scott Preston is an Associate Professor at the University of New Brunswick, specializing in applied game design, games-based learning, and history games within popular culture. His research group, Resolve, is known for initiatives such as Campus Paths, a tabletop university simulation addressing career counseling and advising. Additionally, Project AUDE focuses on a UNB History Card Game in collaboration with the UNB Archives Special Collections. The Resolve group investigates contemporary tabletop game design to influence and change learning environments, while also providing work-study and internship opportunities for students. Dr. Preston teaches various courses spanning introductory film studies, design creativity, and advanced media cultural studies, game design, and media production. He has a rich background in community television and his academic publications explore themes in popular genres, Canadian culture and identity, and film history. Currently on sabbatical for the 2025-26 academic year, he has also served in roles such as Director and Advisor for the Media Arts Cultures program and Chair of the Culture Media Studies Department from 2019 to 2022, and participated on the Steering Committee for Arts Academic Planning from 2021 to 2023.
