Biography

Scott Reeder is the John H. Juhl Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He joined UW in 2005 after completing his radiology residency and fellowship in abdominal and cardiovascular imaging at Stanford University. Reeder earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he also completed his graduate work, obtaining a master's degree and doctorate in biomedical engineering. Originally from Canada, he earned a bachelor's degree in applied science (engineering physics) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. In addition to his clinical and administrative responsibilities, he is the director of the UW Liver Imaging Research Program, leading an NIH-funded group that researches the technical development and translation of new imaging methods, particularly quantitative imaging biomarkers for assessing liver disease. His research interests include developing new MRI methods for the quantification of abdominal adiposity, liver fat, liver iron overload, and quantifying liver tumors' perfusion and portal hypertension hemodynamics using new contrast agents. Reeder has authored 350 manuscripts and holds 40 patents describing clinical research and technical innovations, having secured more than $22 million in extramural funding as a principal investigator and co-PI. He is an active member of several national and international societies, including the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Society for Advanced Body Imaging, serving as a fellow and past president of these organizations. He is also a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, the Society of Abdominal Radiology, and the American College of Radiology.
