Professor Silverman received a B.S. degree in chemistry from UCLA in 1991 and obtained a Ph.D. in chemistry from Caltech in 1997, working with Dennis Dougherty in physical organic chemistry and molecular neurobiology. He performed postdoctoral research under Thomas Cech at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Silverman joined the faculty at the University of Illinois in 2000, focusing his research on chemical biology and organic chemistry. The Silverman lab comprises a group of researchers interested in identifying, characterizing, and applying DNA catalysts, utilizing techniques and concepts from chemical biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Projects are designed to be suitable for undergraduate research students. More information regarding research can be found at silverman.chemistry.illinois.edu.
