Biography

Scott Spurlock is a Professor of Scottish Early Modern Christianities at the University of Glasgow, focusing on Scottish and Irish religious cultures. He joined the University in 2013 after holding positions at institutions such as the University of Aberdeen, Queen's University Belfast, University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, and University of Manchester. Professor Spurlock co-convenes a Master's program in Church History Theology with Professor Charlotte Methuen, and collaborates with Stellenbosch University as a Research Associate. His research interests primarily include projects on Scottish religious cultures, especially the Reformation in Scotland and the various traditions that arose, including Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Dissenting, and Quaker traditions. He explores the experiences of lay Catholics in early modern Scotland and investigates the role of Reformed theology in shaping cultural landscapes of that era. Additionally, he has supervised multiple doctoral students in historical theology and early modern religious networks.
