Biography

Seamus Dwyer is a Teaching Associate in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge, specializing in Medieval Literature. He completed his undergraduate studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland, followed by graduate work at the University of Oxford, culminating in a PhD from Yale University. Dwyer has a robust teaching background, having taught at Yale, Smith College, and Central Connecticut State University. His classes address topics such as Old and Middle English literature, pre-modern world literature, and writing themes of teen angst. Dwyer's research focuses primarily on medieval manuscripts and scribal practices, emphasizing how the physical features of material texts enhance our understanding of literature. His current book project examines late medieval scripts, including how these scripts relate to typographical fonts, and explores the visual characteristics and cultural connotations of medieval handwriting that facilitate new interpretations of medieval English literature as well as its literary languages, such as English, French, and Latin. Additionally, Dwyer has interests in medieval multilingualism, lyric theory, literary compilation, and manuscript production.
