Dr. Seamus O Neill

Biography

Seamus O’Neill is an Associate Professor specializing in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, particularly in areas such as Neoplatonism, Metaphysics, and Philosophy of Religion. His research focuses on the works of St. Augustine and significant figures including Plotinus, Boethius, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Dante. He explores the connections within the Neoplatonic tradition, especially concerning the relationships between human and divine mediation. O’Neill has co-edited the book 'Neoplatonic Demons and Angels' published by Brill in 2018, and he has numerous published articles and book chapters analyzing the contributions of various historical thinkers to the evolution of philosophical thought. His teaching includes undergraduate and graduate courses covering a range of classical topics from Greek and Roman philosophy to medieval metaphysics. O’Neill is currently working on a book-length manuscript focused on the theme of demonology as it pertains to the works of St. Augustine.
