Biography

Dr. Sean H. Adams is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at UC Davis Health and serves as the Vice Chair of Basic Research. He is the Scientific Director of the UC Davis Center for Alimentary Metabolic Science (CAMS), where his research focuses on understanding the origins of metabolic diseases and the factors that promote metabolic health. Dr. Adams has special expertise in nutrition and metabolism, examining the molecular links between dietary patterns, physical fitness, muscle physiology, and the gut microbiome's impact on metabolic health. His research interests extend to culinary medicine and the prevention and treatment of diabetes. He has published extensively and served as an Associate Editor for Advances in Nutrition. He completed his B.A. in Biology at California State University, Fresno, his M.S. in Marine Sciences at UC Santa Cruz, and his Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Adams has received numerous accolades, including being named a Fellow of the Obesity Society in 2017 and receiving the International Life Sciences Institute Future Leader Award in 2009.
