Biography

Sean Caulfield is a Centennial Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta. He holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Alberta, which he completed in 1995. Caulfield has been recognized as a Canada Research Chair in Fine Arts (Tier 2) from 2001 to 2011, and he has exhibited his work extensively in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan. His recent exhibitions include 'Found Anatomies' at Peter Robertson Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta (2022) and 'Flood' at the Art Gallery of Alberta (2016). He has received numerous awards and grants, including a Special Award from the Rector Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, a SSHRC Dissemination Grant for the Canadian Stem Cell Network Impact Grant, and the Visual Arts Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, USA. His works are held in several public and private collections, including Houghton Library at Harvard University and the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England. Caulfield's research interests involve exploring printmaking traditions and their role in communicating environmental change and fostering respectful political discourse. He is committed to engaging communities through visual arts and education.
