Biography

Sean Colloms is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Molecular Biosciences since 2008. He previously held a Wellcome Trust Senior Fellowship at the same institution from 2000 to 2008 and worked as a Research Associate at the University of Oxford from 1994 to 2000, as well as an EMBO Fellow at the Netherlands Cancer Institute from 1992 to 1994. Colloms completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow in 1990 and his BSc in Natural Sciences with a focus on Genetics from the University of Cambridge in 1987. His research interests include the mechanisms and functions of enzymes that manipulate DNA, focusing on site-specific recombinases that can cut and rejoin DNA sequences, as well as DNA topology. His research has implications for biotechnology and has explored the regulatory mechanisms of various recombination enzymes. He teaches courses in Biotechnology, including programme coordination for the MSc in Biotechnology and coordination of several specialized courses in the field.
