Dr. Sean Freeman

Biography

Sean Freeman is a Professor of Nuclear Physics at the University of Manchester, where he leads the Nuclear Physics Group. He has a rich academic background, holding a B.A. (Hons) in Physics from Balliol College, Oxford, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Nuclear Physics from Victoria University of Manchester. His research interests include experimental techniques in nuclear physics, such as transfer reaction studies and gamma-ray spectroscopy. Over the years, Freeman has held various academic positions, including Associate Research Scientist at Yale University and Royal Society European Fellow at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. He has been instrumental in multiple research projects, including the Manchester Nuclear Physics project and has collaborated extensively with international institutions. Freeman's work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the societal impacts of nuclear research. Additionally, he has been an external academic expert member for various organizations, contributing significantly to the field of nuclear physics. Freeman also serves in leadership roles, including Chair of the STFC Science Board and participating in several professional organizations, such as the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics.
