Biography

Sean Gray is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. His research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of democratic theory and public policy, with a special focus on deliberation, civic engagement, and political ethics. Gray completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honors at Queen’s University and earned his PhD from the University of British Columbia. Before joining Memorial in 2022, he was a faculty member at the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies at Harvard University, and he held additional teaching appointments at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He completed postdoctoral research at Harvard's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation and held fellowships at the Centre for Advanced Studies Justitia Amplificata at Goethe University Frankfurt and at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics. Gray has also worked as a consultant for organizations looking to implement participatory governance models to improve public service delivery in the City of Vancouver and for the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. His academic contributions include co-editing the book "Empowering Affected Interests: Democratic Inclusion in a Globalized World" and publishing several journal articles in prominent political science publications.
