Biography

Sean Hill is the co-Director of the Blue Brain Project and the Swiss Brain Initiative, and he leads the Neuroinformatics division at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where his research focuses on large-scale simulation, neuroinformatics, and understanding brain microcircuitry. He formerly served as the inaugural Director of the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at CAMH in Toronto, Canada, emphasizing digital transformation within mental health through data science and machine learning. Hill's tenure at the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) included roles as Executive Director and Scientific Director, during which he developed strategies for global neuroinformatics initiatives. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in computational neuroscience from Université de Lausanne and postdoctoral work at the Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, California, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Madison and IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center. Hill has directed significant research addressing the dynamics and structure of neocortical and thalamocortical circuitry and serves on advisory committees for clinical informatics on an international scale. He is engaged in managing extensive next-generation informatics projects that aim to enhance our understanding of brain function and neurotechnologies.
