Biography

Sean Mcginty obtained a BSc in Mathematics & Physics from the University of Strathclyde and completed his PhD in Applied Mathematics. He initially took short postdoctoral positions before moving to the industry, specifically in the Renewable Energy Sector, where he was involved in forecasting energy output for wind farms. After several years in industry, he returned to academia as a Research Associate at the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Strathclyde, eventually becoming a Knowledge Exchange Associate. Since his appointment as a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in 2015 in the Division of Biomedical Engineering, he has focused on mathematical modelling research as applied to biology and health problems. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics & Applications and holds Chartered Mathematician status. Mcginty has also served as Director of the Centre for Mathematics Applied to Life Sciences and has been involved in various strategic advisory roles. His research interests include Mathematical Computational Biomedical Engineering, focusing on developing tools to understand biological processes and treatments, alongside machine learning and AI applications in healthcare. His notable achievements include the development of a novel drug-eluting stent and contributions to mathematical modelling in cardiovascular medicine.
