Biography

Sean Richmond is a Canadian lawyer and academic specializing in international law and international relations. He joined the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University in July 2018, teaching courses such as Public International Law and the Criminal Justice System. Prior to this, he served as a Special Advisor to Canada’s Legal Adviser at the Department of Foreign Affairs and as a Legal Officer with the United Nations. Richmond has also taught at Carleton's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and held a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the University of Western Australia. He has a DPhil from Oxford University and has completed a variety of research projects focused on the relationship between international law and politics, including analyses of Canada's response to the Vietnam War and the dynamics of military force in international relations. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and academic presses, and his work aims to enhance public dialogue and scholarly debate in these critical areas of law and policy.
