Biography

Sean Shieh is a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Western University. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii in 1998. His research specializes in mineral physics and the study of materials under extreme pressure-temperature conditions. Shieh's work focuses on the elasticity and structural dynamics of Earth's planetary interiors, and he utilizes techniques such as synchrotron X-ray and Raman IR spectroscopy to characterize materials, including their equation of state and phase transitions. His interests extend to exploring novel super-hard materials and the interactions of materials with fluids at high-pressure and high-temperature environments using diamond anvil cells. Over the years, Shieh has published extensively in esteemed journals, contributing significantly to our understanding of various geological and materials science topics, particularly in relation to planetary geology and high-pressure regimes.
