Biography

Sean Sun is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering, and he serves as the director of the Sun Cell Mechanics Group. His research focuses on improving the understanding of cell motility, molecular motors, protein membranes, statistical mechanics, theoretical biomechanics, and biophysics. In 2017, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) for his outstanding contributions to the quantitative understanding of cell mechanics and the mechanisms of force generation in living cells. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1994 and earned his Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1998.
