Biography

Sean Symon is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, specializing in Aeronautics and Astronautics. He holds a PhD in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology, where he also completed his M.S. in Aeronautics. Following his doctorate, he served as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Dr. Symon's research interests lie primarily in data assimilation, optimization, reduced-order modeling, and flow control. He actively participates in research groups focused on aerodynamics and flight mechanics, and has been involved in numerous projects aimed at improving aerodynamic efficiency. In addition to his research, he has also contributed to the academic community as a seminar coordinator and undergraduate program lead. His teaching includes courses in Aerospace Control Design and Data-Driven Fluid Mechanics. Outside of academia, he enjoys playing the violin and piano, often performing in orchestras in Hampshire.
