Biography

Sebastiaan Veersema completed his training as a gynecologist at VU Medical Center Amsterdam and St. Elisabeth Gasthuis Haarlem. He further pursued a fellowship in reproductive medicine and endocrinology at VU MC Amsterdam. Since 1991, he has specialized in benign gynecology with a focus on minimally invasive innovative techniques, particularly in the treatment of endometriosis, myomas (fibroids), polyps, heavy menstruation, contraceptive issues, caesarean scar problems, and removal of Essure sterilization. In 2016, he began working at the University Medical Center Utrecht, initially serving as the Head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine and Gynecology. On August 1, 2018, he became the Medical-Scientific Manager of the division for Woman and Baby. He was appointed as a professor of benign gynecology in 2019. In 2014, he defended his thesis at the Free University of Amsterdam on the subject of hysteroscopic sterilization and is also a patent holder in this field.
