Biography

Sebastian Schwenen is a professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), specializing in applied microeconomics and empirical industrial organization with a particular focus on energy markets, decarbonization, and critical infrastructure. He has been involved in various research projects aimed at providing evidence-based policy advice to institutions such as the European Commission and the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy in Germany. Schwenen holds a PhD in economics from the Copenhagen Business School and an MSc in economics from Humboldt University Berlin. His academic career includes visiting PhD studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science and postdoctoral research at the European University Institute in Florence, as well as at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). He joined TUM School of Management in September 2015 and is also an affiliated researcher at DIW Berlin and the Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies. His research interests include strategic bidding in multi-unit auctions, renewable energy support mechanisms, and the regulation of electricity distribution systems.
