Dr. Sebastian Stichel

Biography

Sebastian Stichel is a Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) specializing in Vehicle Engineering and Technical Acoustics. Since 2010, he has focused his research on Rail Vehicle Dynamics and has contributed significantly to the field through various leadership roles, including Vice Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences and Head of the Rail Vehicle Research Group. He has a considerable background in the industry, having worked for over a decade at Bombardier Transportation, where he managed Vehicle Dynamics for multiple regions, including Sweden, Germany, the UK, and France. He holds a master's and PhD degree in Vehicle Technology from the Technische Universität Berlin. His research interests encompass wheel-rail wear, rolling contact fatigue, freight vehicle dynamics, ride comfort, active suspension systems, and dynamic pantograph-catenary interaction. In addition to his academic role, he has served on multiple boards and advisory committees, including the Vice-Chair of the Academia for the European Rail Research Advisory Council and a board member of the Swedish Association for Railway Industries. Stichel has also held adjunct professorships at Beijing Jiaotong University and Bandung Institute of Technology and has been instrumental in shaping collaborations between academia and industry.
