Biography

Sebastian Werner is an Acting Professor at the University of Hamburg, engaged in both teaching and research activities related to Software Engineering and Construction Methods. He studied Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin, where he earned his doctorate under the supervision of Professor Stefan Tai. Throughout his academic career, Sebastian has worked on various research projects, including the Horizon Europe project TEADAL, which focuses on cloud-native architecture engineering. His past involvement includes the EU project DITAS, where he explored management and monitoring of data streams within the cloud continuum. In 2020, he received funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the Software Campus - SMILE project, aimed at advancing migration and analytics on serverless architectures. His dissertation, titled "Serverless Data Processing: Application Platform (Co-) Design," was defended in April 2023. Sebastian has developed expertise in serverless cloud computing and distributed cloud application design, currently dedicating his work to sustainability, maintainability, and trustworthiness in distributed application architectures. He is passionate about addressing the challenges of the next generation of cloud computing.
