Biography

Sebastien Betermier is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University, and serves as the Executive Director of the International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM). His research interests focus on risk and return, portfolio management, asset pricing, pension funds, retirement systems, and household finance, with an emphasis on sustainable finance. He has published in leading finance journals and has been featured in prominent media, including The Economist, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg. Professor Betermier teaches courses in Applied Investments and Pension Funds at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has received multiple teaching excellence nominations and was honored with the Desautels Distinguished Teaching Award in 2016 and 2020. In 2017, he was named one of the World’s 40 Under 40 Business School Professors by Poets & Quants. He has also been involved in various academic and advisory roles, including being a member of the Pension Administration Committee at McGill and the C.D. Howe Pension Policy Council. He previously served as the Head of the Finance Area at Desautels from 2020 to 2022 and as an Academic Consultant for the Bank of Canada from 2018 to 2022.
