Biography

Sebastien Breau is a Professor and the Department Chair in the Department of Geography at McGill University. He completed his graduate studies in geography at the University of California, Los Angeles where he received his PhD in 2006. Breau also holds a Master of Arts in economics from Université Laval (1999) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in economics from Université de Moncton (1995). His professional experience includes working as an economist at the Conference Board of Canada and the Canadian Institute for Research on Regional Development. Breau's current research focuses on applied economic geography, specifically in developing new datasets to explore the spatial dimensions of income inequality and to understand the factors contributing to growing spatial inequalities. He also examines the broader policy implications of these inequalities from a regional economic development perspective, particularly in the North American context. In addition to his research, he serves as co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Regional Sciences and is the Academic Director of the McGill-Concordia Quebec Inter-university Center for Social Statistics (QICSS) Lab. He is a mentor in the Provost's Faculty Mentor Network at McGill University.
