Sébastien P. Faucher graduated from Université de Montréal with a degree in Microbiology and Immunology in 2003 and obtained his Ph.D. in the same field from the same university in 2007, focusing on the identification of virulence genes in Salmonella typhi. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University from 2007 to 2010, under the supervision of Howard Shuman, where he conducted research on Legionella pneumophila. Following this, he returned to Montréal in June 2010 for another postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Philippe Gros at McGill University, studying the genetic determinants involved in cerebral malaria. Since joining the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at McGill in July 2011, Dr. Faucher has focused his research on the genetics, evolution, and ecology of water-borne pathogens, publishing over 65 peer-reviewed papers and supervising 16 graduate students. His current research endeavours include understanding how water-borne pathogens adapt to environmental stressors and developing biocontrol strategies using bacteriophages. He is also involved in citizen science initiatives to help identify risk factors associated with water-borne pathogens.
