Biography

Sébastien Lord has a multidisciplinary background ranging from urban planning (B.Sc., 1996) to architecture (M.Sc., 2004) and land use planning (Ph.D., 2009). His dissertation on aging in suburban areas received the Merit Award in Housing Studies from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. After four years at the Luxembourg Institute of Urban Research, he joined the School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture in 2012. Since January 2019, he has been director of the Ivanhoé Cambridge Observatory on urban development and real estate. His teaching and research focus on the connections between daily mobility, residential choices, and lifestyles, as well as the impacts of demographic changes such as aging and immigration on territorial evolution, housing, and planning policies. Lord's research interests include residential practices, population aging issues, the relationship between daily and residential mobilities, urban spaces, and metropolitan dynamics, utilizing mixed methods and longitudinal approaches in his work.
