Professor Sek Chow completed his Doctor of Medical Science degree in Immunology at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden in 1990. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in cancer drug development at the Mayo Clinic Foundation in the United States before returning to the Karolinska Institute to further develop his expertise in immunotoxicology. Professor Chow joined the Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit at Leicester University in the UK as an MRC fellow, where he took on a lectureship at Nottingham University. In 2002, he returned to the MRC Toxicology Unit as Group Leader in Immunotoxicology. He joined the School of Science at Monash University Malaysia in 2007 and became an Associate Professor, later named an adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Immunology at Monash University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences. He has served as Deputy Head of School for research and was appointed Professor of Biomedical Sciences in 2011. Professor Chow is a founding director of the Malaysia Medicinal Aromatic Plants Accelerator at Monash and has held leadership roles in Malaysia’s society of toxicology. His research interests focus on understanding how xenobiotics affect immune function, particularly in T lymphocytes, exploring the effects of xenobiotics on signaling pathways and immune responses, and investigating mechanisms of apoptosis in immune cells.
