Dr. Seléne Van Der Poel

Biography

Seléne van der Poel is a Communications Consultant with expertise in structural geology and electromagnetic methods. She has ten years of experience in academic communications, emphasizing the importance of effective storytelling in science education. Seléne developed an educational program and associated tools for medical professionals at GenDx, a company specializing in stem cell transplant diagnostics, from 2014 to 2019. Since 2019, she has been the GEO Project Leader for outreach at the Utrecht Sustainability Institute, where she develops and implements communication strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of scientific research. Seléne collaborates with stakeholders from knowledge institutions, companies, and governments to build effective communication frameworks. In 2023, she led the organizational structure impact as Faculty Impact Coordinator, focusing on integrating departments to foster collaborative efforts. Starting September 1, 2024, she will serve as an advisor for the EXCITE Network, a major Horizon Europe initiative that provides access to microscopic techniques and expertise to address societal challenges.
