Biography

Selim Terhzaz graduated with an MRes in Neurosciences and Neuropharmacology from the University of Bordeaux in France (1999). He completed his PhD under the supervision of Professor Jan Veenstra, focusing on the biochemical isolation and molecular genetics analysis of neuropeptides in Drosophila melanogaster. After finishing his PhD in 2003, he joined the University of Glasgow to work in the laboratories of Professors Julian Dow and Shireen Davies, where he pursued his interests in Drosophila molecular genetics and neuropeptide signalling. He has been continuously funded by the BBSRC and has transitioned from a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to a Research Associate (2007) and Research Fellow (2013-2020) at the University of Glasgow. In 2020, he joined Professor Alain Kohl and Dr. Emilie Pondeville’s group at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research. His research interests center on Bunyaviridae, a large order of viruses that can infect a wide range of vertebrate and invertebrate hosts, with a particular focus on understanding how arbovirus infection affects mosquito physiology and the processes governing immune responses against these infections.
