Dr. Selina Mudavanhu

Biography

Selina Mudavanhu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies and Media Arts at McMaster University. She holds a PhD in Media Studies from the Centre for Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her research interests encompass critical media studies, critical race studies, decolonial studies, and social media politics. Selina has had extensive experience in academia and research institutes, having held positions such as Program Convenor and Web Content Developer at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town, Acting Director at the same institute, and Media Gender Projects Officer at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. She has also worked as a Current Affairs Producer at Zimbabwe Television and as a News Reporter and Features Writer for the Sunday Mirror Newspaper. Additionally, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Diversity Institute, Ryerson University, and engaged in communication studies at the University of Johannesburg. With multiple degrees including a PhD, MA, and postgraduate diploma in Communication and Media Studies, Selina brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching and research activities.
