Biography

Selina Stone is a theologian and ethicist with a focus on the ethical impact of Christian doctrine and its application in ministry practice. Her work particularly addresses issues of marginalization and oppression within church and society, drawing on methods such as historical, archival, ethnographic, biblical, and digital research. Stone's current research interests include the theological constructions of divine providence in relation to the transatlantic slave trade of the 18th century, the abuses of power within contemporary churches, and the associated ethical implications for well-being. She has published extensively, with her latest book, 'A Heavy Yoke: Theology, Power Abuse in the Church,' set to be released by SCM Press in 2025. Stone is actively involved in the Society for the Study of Theology and the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics and hosts the 'Sunday School Misfits' podcast. Her previous roles include Lecturer in Theology at St Mellitus College and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Durham, where she contributed to research training in theological colleges and oversight for Common Awards validation partnerships. Stone completed her PhD in Pentecostal Theology and Ethics at the University of Birmingham in 2021, and her work has engaged with themes of race and clergy well-being in relation to the Church of England.
