Dr. Selma Guigard

Biography

Selma E. Guigard is a professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, specializing in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Her research primarily focuses on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) technology and its environmental applications. Dr. Guigard has a robust background in the measurement of solubility of metal chelates in supercritical carbon dioxide and has developed new techniques for accurate solubility measurements. She has led significant research projects investigating the remediation of hydrocarbon and metal-contaminated soils utilizing SFE, as well as exploring the applications of SFE in non-environmental sectors like the food industry. In her career, she has published numerous papers in high-impact journals and presented her findings at various international conferences. Currently, she is developing a pilot-scale SFE system in collaboration with the University of Guelph, focusing on innovative methods for extracting bitumen from oil sands and improving remediation techniques. Selma's extensive research and contributions to the field have positioned her as a leading expert in environmental engineering.
