Biography

Semsa Gogcu is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Clinical Trials at Women & Infants Hospital, specializing in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She received her medical degree from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical School in Istanbul, Turkey, and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Montefiore in New York. Additionally, she completed a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina and earned a Master of Public Health degree from New York Medical College with a focus on Health Policy Management. Her research interests primarily revolve around the short and long-term outcomes of extremely low birth weight infants. Semsa has been involved in important studies such as the Preterm Erythropoietin Neuroprotection Trial (PENUT) and the Extremely Low Gestational Age Newborns (ELGAN) project, which examines the developmental impact of NICU exposures. Furthermore, she leads quality improvement projects and participates actively in team science. Semsa currently serves as the President of the Eastern Society for Pediatric Research and is an executive council member of the Society for Pediatric Research, emphasizing the importance of fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment for her fellows and mentoring them towards clinical excellence, leadership, advocacy, and academic growth.
