Senem Pirler is an artist, sonic improviser, and educator based at the University of Chicago. Her interdisciplinary work spans sound engineering, sound art, composition, performance, video art, movement, and installation. Originally from Turkey, she studied classical piano at Hacettepe State Conservatory and pursued sound engineering design at Istanbul Technical University/MIAM. Pirler earned her Master of Music in Music Technology with the Stephen F. Her work has been recognized by institutions such as the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and has received awards including the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in the category of Music/Sound and the Malcolm Morse Award for her contributions to the field of deep listening. Currently, she is a faculty member at Bennington College overseeing the sound practices curriculum and joined the University of Chicago faculty in 2024.
