Biography

Senthil Murugan Ganapathy received his Ph.D. in Photonic Materials in 2001 from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow from 2001 to 2005 at the University of Bordeaux in France and the Toyota Technological Institute in Japan. In April 2005, he joined the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, where he is currently a professor and the head of the Integrated Photonic Devices Group. His research interests include photonic materials, systems, biomedical sensing, and optical communication applications. He has made pioneering contributions in the field, particularly in novel optical microresonators and related technologies. With an h-index of 37, Ganapathy has published over 300 journal and conference papers and has given more than 40 invited and keynote lectures at major international conferences. He also has 5 patents to his name. He has received multiple research grants totaling £8M and established a unique characterisation facility for Mid-IR spectroscopy. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor at the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, and he is actively involved in teaching MSc Photonic Technologies courses at the University of Southampton. He has served in various advisory and editorial roles, reflecting his standing in the academic community.
